Vacuum Cleaner FAQ
From time to time we get repeated questions from our customers while giving free consultations on the vacuum cleaners needs. Here are a few frequently asked questions on industrial wet & dry vacuum cleaners that we have encountered in the years of serving in the cleaning industry.
Are all vacuum cleaners wet & dry applicable?
No. Vacuum cleaners that are wet and dry applicable will be stated as such on their respective packaging, user manual and other marketing materials.
For vacuum cleaners here at Upekkha, all our industrial vacuum cleaners are wet and dry applicable except the UV16D which is dry applicable only.
What is the difference between a dry and wet vacuum cleaner?
A dry vacuum cleaner can only be used for dry situations but a wet vacuum cleaner can be used for both wet and dry situations.
How does a vacuum cleaner work?
A vacuum cleaner operates by utilizing its built in carbon brushed motor, spinning its fan at fast speeds to create a semi vacuum in its cylindrical tank. Areas of high air pressure will flow to areas of low air pressure naturally. The vacuum cleaner makes use of the low vacuum pressure produced to collect dirt, debris, sand, rubbish or any small and light particles.
A vacuum cleaner typically has a single motor, or up to a maximum of 3 motors installed in its top plastic enclosure. The more number of motors, the stronger the vacuum suction produced by the vacuum cleaner.
What do I do if there is a problem with my vacuum cleaner?
Here at Upekkha, we agree that everyone deserves the knowledge of basic problem solving skills on the issues that may arose with their vacuum cleaners.

What is a vacuum cleaner used for?
A vacuum cleaner is normally used to collect foreign objects or substances from our surroundings especially in our homes or offices. They help us maintain cleanliness and hygiene so that we are able to protect our health and safety. Typical foreign objects and substances includes dust, dirt, sand, fur, hair, rocks and liquids.
What is considered to be a good vacuum cleaner?
A good vacuum cleaner should have an efficient and effective suction performance whilst being able to be used continuously as long as its needed to fill up the whole tank.
What should you not vacuum?
You should not vacuum sharp objects or items in sizes larger than half of the vacuum hose diameter. Sharp objects may puncture the hose and cause a loss of air suction and this leads to a decrease in vacuum performance. The same can be said for long or large objects as they can block the airway of your vacuum hose.
How often should you empty your vacuum?
You should always empty your vacuum in situations listed below:
- When you are done using the vacuum cleaner.
- When the collection tank is full.
- When your vacuum pressure has decreased.
How long can you run a vacuum cleaner?
Vacuum cleaner uptimes differs from one to another. There is no general rule of thumb as not all vacuum cleaners are built the same!
As the saying goes, you pay for what you get. The quality of cheap vacuum cleaners are made up of unreliable components and materials, the opposite can be said for vacuum cleaners that are sold starting from mid range prices.
